WALK AWAY (POEM AND SONG)

Image
This was a tough one to write today  I've ever written because I know the reality behind it. Alot of my poetry relates to experiences in my past present and future even when it leads to difficult questions and consequences . Poetry and prayer  is my survival instinct. This now is my fifth poem turned into a song (link to thesongis locatedat theend of the poem).  WALKING AWAY The hardest thing today When I had to walk away I simply could not stay Walking away was necessary I reached out day after day For us every day, I would pray I gave us every opportunity Walking away is necessary Daily asking the question why But getting not one reply For us, my heart does cry Walking away was necessary So, walk away, walk away We've nothing more to say There's no more aces to play Walking away can be healthy All those years we'd enjoy Such an incredible journey Now, it will be just a memory Walking away is necessary So, farewell to our yesterday Hello to our untold destiny As we ha...

JUST BEFORE (LONG POEM)

Image
JUST BEFORE: BY SARAH JOY HOLDEN  Before we critise, give praise Before we withdraw, let us reach out Before we complain, may we encourage Before we look inwards - look out. Before we cast hate, show love more Before we teach, we must first learn Before we are served, first serve Before we surrender, let us try again. Before we run, first learn to walk Before seeking more, count our blessings Before we assume, seek the truth Before we are friends, we are strangers. Before we say goodbye, say hello Before we journey, seek the way Before we overlook, let us observe Before we end, we must begin. Before we speak, open ears to listen Before we agree, let us consider Before we leave, we have to come in Before we act, let us pray to our Father. ©️

THE UNKNOWN STRANGER

Image
THE UNKNOWN STRANGER He sits alone on the bench Looking out onto the street Strange faces pass him by Not one has time for him today. As the wind blows around him This seat is so uncomfortable Footsteps quickly pass him by Not one pauses for him today. This day turns into the night Merry souls stagger passing by To frightened to shut his eyes No one cares where he sleeps. A man the world once respected Now a soul forgotten in time His face now goes unrecognised No one seems to have time for him. As the sun now begins to rise Here alone he eternally sleeps Folk clickbait as he's carried away That man they daily passed by. He is alone in death as in life Strange faces file past his grave Wrapped up in their own reflections For a stranger they had no time for. For our God who loves a try'er He loves the one we call a stranger The kindness and grace of a saviour Through every passing hour. ©️Sarah Joy Holden The parable of the good Samaritan -  Luke 10:25-37 (niv bible)

WHERE GOD LEADS (x2 poems)

Image
GOD IS THERE TO Mountains and valleys The rivers and streams From seas to oceans God is right is there to. The forests to the fields Pathways to bridleways Roads that lead to lanes God is right is there to. From Earth to the skies The rocks to the caves In the desert to the hills Where I am God is there to. ©️ Sarah Joy Holden GUIDED BACK HOME  I couldn’t find the way to go, Until I saw you upper ahead. So, I hurried my pace to you, Where you heard me and turned. Hello you said, how are you? "I’m lost" said me, which way do I go. They replied why don’t you know, You’ve lived here all your life. I’ve never been this way before; It is all very strange to me now. Everything has change too much, I’m flummoxed which way I go. They said continue to go straight up, Take a left-hand turn and your there. I said my farewell and of I went again, But soon I lost my way once more. This road I have never seen before, Had they sent me the wrong way. Had I missed heard the instructi...

THERE ARE MANY ROADS (LONG POEM)

Image
THERE ARE MANY ROADS  By Sarah Joy Holden  There are roads all around us: Roads that are well travelled. There are roads all around us: Roads that are a costly mistake. There are roads all around us: Roads that lead to a dead end. There are roads all around us: Roads that are so strange. There are roads all around us: Roads that keep us connected. There are roads all around us: Roads that guide us home. There are roads all around us: Roads that are new and old. There are roads all around us: Roads that lead to adventure. There are roads all around us: Roads that aren't straight forward. There are roads all around us: Roads that are paved with grace. There are roads all around us: Roads that are straight and bend. There are roads all around us: Roads that test our patience. There are roads all around us: Roads that we've encountered. There are roads all around us: Roads that we have to navigate. There are roads all around us: Roads that are hard to find. There are roads all aro...

THE ULTERMATE CRAFTSMAN

Image
The concept of "God the craftsman" portrays God as a skilled artisan who creates and shapes the universe and humanity with wisdom and care. This idea is found in various context in the bible emphasizing God's creative power, ingenuity, and deliberate design in all things. In Genesis it depicts God as a craftsman who forms the world from chaos, using words and actions to shape the heavens, earth, and all living beings. Then in Exodus it says God empowers skilled artisans like Bezalel with wisdom and craftsmanship to build the Tabernacle and its furnishings. The Psalms often celebrate God's creative power and the intricate design of the natural world, viewing it as evidence of God's craftsmanship. The Prophet Isaiah uses the imagery of a potter shaping clay to illustrate God's power over his people and his ability to create and restore them. So, when I woke up this morning, God had already painted me a beautiful picture. A live image of Skies in blue and eart...

REUNITED WITH THE FATHER

Image
I was sat in my lounge this morning and I suddenly started thinking about being 'reunited with the Father.' Not so much our earthly fathers but that of our Heavenly Father. It also got me thinking about moments in the bible scriptures where we read about children and their fathers being reunited. The first that came to mind was Joseph and his Father, son of Jacob, known for his coat of many colours and his rise to power in Egypt (Genesis 46:28-34). Jacob believed that his son was dead, yet Joseph, who had become a high official in Egypt, reveals his identity to his brothers who had come seeking food during a famine. Jacob is overjoyed to learn that his son is alive and in a position of power. The reunion takes place in the land of Goshen, where Jacob's family settles. As I started thinking and reading about this account of being reunited with the Father another biblical story came to mind. The parable of the Prodigal Son, found in Luke 15:11-32, tells the story of a father ...

IN HIS TIME NOT MINE

Image
So, I rushed ahead when God told us to wait, I didn't listen to this simply instruction. In my hurrying I made noticeable errors, Therefore I now have to retrace my steps. As I walk along now taking my time,I see the scattered mistakes lying on the ground. Slowly retrieving them, putting them safely in my pocket. I carry them back home, safely laying them out on my work station. Before I set out to correct these damaged words, I remembered to pray and ask God to guide and to me. Here I am sat rearranging, proof-reading and speaking them out loud. In the silence I hear the lord again clearly speak. I intently listen, he says 'let me take the pen and let me write the things you need to hear and share.'  I obey my Father's will and recieve his Holy Spirit. And again I share His words, love through the creative things I write with his guiding hand on my pen. This is His gift to me to receive and to share. This time I am doing it in His strength - especially today when I ...

SHE'S A PUBLISHED AUTHOR

Image
It is my joy and and delight to annouce the much awaited poetry book by Sarah Joy Holden. The book is called 'Prolific Poetess'. This weekend just gone after many months of editing back and forth with the proof reader/editor, I found myself holding the paper version of my own word - Phew Praise God. The journey here wasn't easy and anyone who thinks it is clearly mistaken.   There have been endless sleepless nights, anxiety and stress in the process.  But there has also been much joy all of which has been a tremendous and glorious experience. I never realised what an enormous struggle publishing your book of anything would be. There have be some very lonely times mixed, emotions and moments of praise during this process. I know from fellow writers I'm not alone with these feelings. I wanted to give you the reader the best of my writing heart. My main beating heart belongs to the those I love dearly (two hearts in one). There is now the feeling that I have learned from s...

THE TRAVELLING STRANGER (Short Fiction)

Image
THE TRAVELLING STRANGER By Sarah Joy Holden It was a chilly late morning in February, and the railway station has just witnessed the early morning rush hour. Arriving at the station just after the rush hour commute is a young lady called Bernadette. Bernadette could have got an earlier train, but wanted to avoid the hordes of commuters jostling for their rush hour trains and the overcrowded platforms. Entering the familiarities of the station she headed onto the correct platform, here she waited and watched for the train’s arrival along with the other passengers. It wasn’t long before the train pulled into the platform, its doors opening and several passengers disembarked, before those waiting surged forward trying to board. Bernadette took her time letting a few people go before her. Finally she took her chance and boarded the train. She manages to find herself a window seat; thankful and surprised that she actually did even manage to get a seat on a train. It was a good i...

TOWN PARK PLEASURES

Image
Short Story by Sarah Joy Holden. Coral was a prolific writer in her mid-fifties living in the county town of Duvetdale. She lives opposite the beautiful town park where she often visits, either to the park itself or just as a cut through to the town centre. There is always something going on in town officially or non-official. Nobody misses a trick. It is a small town with a big community heart, everyone looking out for each other. On one particular damp and miserable day in December on a Wednesday afternoon: Coral was walking through the park on her way into town. As she walked through the park, a chorus of birds sang from the trees. They were making a right racket. Yet she couldn’t Identify them, because they were high up in the trees. She paused and sat on a park bench because a poem line had just entered her mind. You see Coral was a bit of a prolific wordsmith; it didn’t take much for her to come up with something. Wherever she went or whatever was happening she would always find...

WAITING IN THE HALLWAY (Devotional)

Image
WAITING IN THE HALLWAY: Devotion by Sarah Joy Holden READING : Revelation 3:8 "I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut". REFLECTION: Waiting in a hallway can be a period of anticipation or transition. It can be a time to reflect, observe, or prepare for what comes next. The hallway itself can symbolize a transitional space, a place to navigate before entering a new room or phase of life.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with waiting in the hallway, especially as you've tried every key in every door. In the hallway you'll always find a resting point,  quiet often chair. It is here, rest, wait, prepare ourselves. The right door will open at the right time or perhaps it can never be opened. You may knock on the door but never force it. For the door to open requires human patience and all things happen for a reason. Until God opens the right doors let's praise him in our hallways. So let be patient ...

THE WAITING

Image
This morning I have been just been reading a friends bible devotion, they were talking about 'waiting and the different aspects of waiting. This reminded me of a time recently when 'God the Father' reminded me to 'wait.' This inspired me to look deeper into the subject of waiting and explore this further both as believers and non believers. Psalm 33:20-22 “Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.” The English dictionary refers to waiting or wait as;  • stay where one is or delay action until a particular time or event. • stay where one is or delay action until (someone) arrives or is ready. • Be left until a later time before being dealt with. • A delay until a person's arrival. • remain in readiness for a purpose. Last year God kept telling me to especially at a writers retreat to 'WAIT' in releasin...

CREATIVE RESILIENCE (PERSONAL EXPERIENCE)

Image
Greetings dear earthlings, how are you this fine and sunshiny day, apparently we've another week of this hot weather. But I'm not here today to talk about the weather. I'm writing of something close to my heart and the never ending journey it's taken me on recently. It has been a real roller coaster, and I don't think anyone can see or know the The phrase "my heart rule my head" means to make decisions based on emotions and feelings rather than logic or reason. It signifies prioritizing intuition and personal desires over rational thought. In essence, it's about allowing ...

BELIEVERS BAPTISM(my Story)

Image
Today (Sunday) I opened my keepsake box, I was looking for a certain photograph. I came across the following article I had supposedly written back in nineteen ninety. For this blog I have brought it up to date. Back then I wasn't a writer like I am today. I've also swapped from a type writer to my laptop. I have included a picture of the original that was in the then 'Carreg Llwyd Church' Petros magazine (Greek word meaning "rock" or "stone". It's the Greek form of the name Peter ). On the twenty second of April nineteen ninety, was the day of my baptism. Apart from the expected nerves, I was looking forward to this. I was obeying God's command; when he asks all believers to 'believe and be baptised.' Before the service my pastor prayed with everyone being baptised that morning.  He prayed that God would be with us and we wouldn't be nervous. God answered those prayers: because when I shared my testimony in front of the whole ch...

TEN YEARS A WRITER

Image
T oday I’m celebrating ten years since the start of my writing journey. It all started back in 2015. I had already many years of creativity behind me especially card making and embroidery. I never even considered ten years later I would become the writer I am today. It all started back in 2015, circumstances at the time weren’t great and often my frustrations would often be active or verbal. Several people in my home church including the pastor at the time Derek Hughes encouraged me to keep a written journal. It really helped me pen my frustrations down on paper than outwardly getting my frustrations out on others. During this season I really felt the presence of Jesus helping and guiding me. It was about a year and a half of journaling, that I was unknowingly penning my daily journal in poetry form.  Over the years my poetry has developed: not only writing privately but also getting commissions from the church and other platforms I’m involved with. In 2018 my writin...

WHO THE WRITER ARE YOU

Image
As writer one of my biggest regrets now is throwing away my old journals. At the time I felt it right to do and pressured to do so. Those journals had a lot angry stuff as well as good things in them. Things now would have helped visually see how far I've come from especially how I handled tough situations to how I now can better mange them.  Some where when my sister left for south Africa, although Those memories still remain, and can see the faithfulness of God. Now a day's the journals are packed with poetry and sermon notes.i did manage to save my first ever poem I had written.  I am a prolific writer and recently tried my hand at short story writing. I loved creating characters, but found the process very difficult. The story so far is there isn't a story book coming outas i had wished for.  I'm first and foremost a poet and not a story writer. Unfortunately it can't be published at this present time. Yes it is very difficult to accept and the negitive feedb...

THE PARABLE OF THE MISSING STORY

Image
THE PARABLE OF THE MISSING STORY Milly-Molly was a young published author who most days could be found scribbling in her journals. A journal is a record that stores details of your life ranging from events, ideas, feelings, and your daily thoughts, memories. In this way, she was able to remember what she did, what she was thinking and feeling, and what had happened. One week in February, someone asked Milly-Molly the writers permission for a piece of writing she did for them last year. Milly-Molly agreed but then couldn't find any electronic version of it, but never disclosed this to the friend.  She  remembered that it would of been been in one of her writing journals, he prayed to the Lord that He would help her find it,  within the twelve journals and eight notebooks she had previously written in. Yet procrastination got the better of her; she found herself reading through pieces of writing she had written in the past. Some pieces where joyful whilst others crin...

THE LETTER BOX

Image
I sit here and write this, yet unintentionally it was never meant as a blog. It was to be a story about a letter box, but history over ruled a fictional story being written. Perhaps that story may happen in the future. I'm not even sure now what provoked the thought of letter/post boxes, perhaps the guy unsuccessfully trying to post a parcel through the letter this afternoon, and then ringing the door bell to hand deliver it. Anyway enough of me waffling, let's get down to business.  In 1840 Uniform Penny Post was launched marking a revolution in the way the postal system could be used. Rowland Hill’s postal reforms made way for the postal system to almost every person in Britain. Use of the system grew rapidly, as a result the earlier systems for collecting, sorting and delivering letters had to change. One such change was in the means of people posting letters. Before the Road-Side Letter Boxes there was mainly two ways of posting a letter. Senders would either have to take th...

SEVERN WONDERS OF WALES

Image
1. Pistyll Rhaeadr: Pistyll Rhaeadr is the tallest waterfall in the UK, but it’s higher than Niagra Falls, at a staggering 240 feet tall. It sits in the Berwyn Mountains, splashing the deep green foliage on either side. It then runs through another two tiers, crashing under rock-carved bridges and burrowing its way around beautiful natural scenery. 2. Llangollen Bridge: This medieval bridge in Llangollen stretches across the River Dee with three charming arches, allowing the water to rush under it and nature to grow around it. It connects the equally charming black-bordered white houses on both sides of the bank. 3. Overton yew trees: In the small village of Overton-on-Dee, not one but over 20 wonders standing in a circle in the churchyard of St Mary the Virgin. Some of the yews are so ancient they pre-date the church itself and have been standing strong in the same spot for thousands of years. 4. Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa): This mountain is most famous of the seven wonders of Wales. It is...
