SHE HAS DONE IT
For some athletes 202.2 miles in a year might not seem a big deal. But for me it is a great achievement, especially when 54 years ago being told you would never walk.
On Sunday depite foot pain and tiredness I pressed on and reached my goal 100 walks in 12 months. Those who really know me, know that when I put my mind to something there's no stopping me.
On my birthday in 2024 I set myself a goal to walk 53 walks in my 53 years of life, complete it by 9th December 2025. By June I had completed 53 walks. I was then challenged to raise the bar and get to 100 by 31st December. At 3pm on 28th December I had finished walk 101. In my head I thought it was walk 98/99. I had walked 2 more than i thought.I have been using my Strava app to keep me on track, this was a personal challenge and not for a charity fundraiser.
If only those doubtful medics could see me now. Dr Bamford at Manchester Children's Hospital would be proud of me.
Over the last few months the plantar fasciitis in my foot/heal has got worse. Today is a rest day, enjoying my other hobbies of writing and crafting.
So 2026 I will be slowing down my walking, taking a well earned walking sabbatical. I love my walking, just gentle strolls from now on. There is however the temptation to continue challenging myself. No sooner had i said I was taking a walking sabbatical; a post appeared for the Derwen College 10k Walk. I have done this walk twice, I love doing it a raising money for a well worthwhile cause. Another Walk I'm temptation to do is the 'Hope house 10 miles Llangollen Canal walk.

All I can say is for January I'm taking a well earned rest after two years back to back walking challenges. Walking just for pleasure and leisure, if and whenever. Essential Walking to and fro. From a girl who was never to walk to the woman who has crossed the miles, conquered the hurdles, and lives on to tell the testimony. Wishing you all a blessed new year.
