ALIVE AND KICKING
I am not sure how long a poem should be, long enough to keep the reader interested. Unfortunately for this one I got carried away. So it could only in my opinion be a blog post as well as a spoken word piece on my new favourite app suno.
This week I was accused of being a fake writer, using AI and claiming the work as my own, this is categorically untrue (some of you may have seen my Facebook post ). So I guess this genuine poem by myself is in response to that. It hurt at the time, but with the support of my fellow writers who came to my aid; it hasn't stopped me from writing. After all I am 'A prolific writer' even if I don't always write it write.' https://sarahjholden.blogspot.com/2025/11/fake-writer-update.html
I don't mind if you lose interest half way through, it is why I have shared the recording and the printed version. I am aware some of my readers are visually impaired, and it helps them and myself hear it spoken aloud. I believe it maybe the longest piece of poetry I have ever written in my ten years of being a writer. In the monthy online poetry group i attend, after we have read our poetry, the question is always asked; "what is our favourite line or verse" . For this one my favourite verse ten.

It would be really helpful to hear what you have to say, this can be done in the comments and helps me in m writing journey (the good, the bad, the ugly).

POETRY IS ALIVE AND KICKING: Written by Sarah Joy Holden
"Dear friends and fellow men,
Some are saying poetry is dead.
Out of touch, outdated, irrelevant;
No, poetry has certainly not died.
Some folk say it has no place,
That poetry bares no real interest.
They state its old-fashioned and tired;
No, poetry has certainly not died.
Yet still we all study the classics;
The likes of Shakespeare and Keats.
Therefore it still has a lot to teach;
No, poetry has certainly not died.
Even if though critics dismiss it,
Poetry will continue to thrive.
As long as it lives in you and I;
No, poetry has certainly not died.
Our world won't run out of material,
It gives us plenty to write about,
For its a writers greatest resource;
No, poetry has certainly not died.
Poetry will and shall never ever die -
Even though the poets die.
Their works shall live on forever;
No, poetry has certainly not died.
Poetry has much to teach us,
From the classics to the modern -
In all its multitude of styles;
No, poetry has certainly not died.
As a writer, I know it to be true
So long as I have breath in me -
It shall be both written and delivered;
No, poetry has certainly not died.
To say that poetry has died,
What silly nonsense men speak.
For my fellow poets, I willll advocate;
No poetry has certainly not died.
My brain often turns to mush,
With age my body has more aches.
Yet despite such things, I still write;
No poetry has certainly not died.
So, tiime to put these rumours to bed,
Though all generations it survives.
Proof that poetry, certainly has not died;
Poetry is alive, breathing and kicking."
