TURN AROUND

Personal poems with me that include myself and there are those that involve everyone.  Sometimes my poetry includes Me and you which often loses the sense of who the poet is writing about. This has been pointed out to me several times.  I have tried hard to be exact, who is in my poetry;  is it my, strangers, or a group. My early writing used to just contain 'I or me' and I quickly became aware of this. The overwhelming sense that I was being selfish in my writing actually stopped me writing for a while.

Persona in poetry refers to a literary device where poets create fictional characters or voices to express thoughts, emotions, and narratives, distinct from their own.

I had to refocus, what direction was my writing going in. There was a clear indication that I was definitely not a story writer but a poet. But what or who was my poetry for. If it was for myself, fine write Whatever and however.  Yet two writing platforms presented themselves to me, this was giving me the opportunity to share my work to a wider audience beyond the safety of the UK shores.

Grammar and punctuation has never been my strong point. And now having my work out there, with all sorts of critics ready to devour my ever spelling mistake and gramical errors, I felt I had to be on my 'A game'. I also had to be aware of the narrative in my writing, no longer me but others.

I had to come out of the selfish mindset and draw in the characters of society my poetry would focus on.  The day to day life's of Joe bloggs;  who is Joe Bloggs is he a blogger, has anyone met him. Now some of my new work includes; We, Our, Them, Us.

Putting chacters into our writing brings circumstances and situations alive. It makes us want to find out more about them and their situation. If I us myself or singular conitation in my writing, I find people get bored pretty quickly. Writing about ourselves is okay if it's informative of what we're doing like a newsletter or instruction. But in writing poetry or stories a singular character always needs the back-up of other people.

I find in the bible, Jesus manages to strike the balance of himself and other people.  There's a good mix of 'I am' statements and 'You shall/will/re' references including others.  Jesus never and still never leaves anyone out in his ministry and teaching.

So I guess I must try harder to involve others in what I write.  I am even conscious that I've 'I or me' in this blog. Evidence that a writers set of on one road, and randomly divert on to other roads, thankfully without crashing.

Remove me from inside the poetry, Welcome other characters to belong Take the plotline to other locations, Go far beyond our own living space. We're inquisitive folk that need to know,  Then turn it into our own fictional tales.
