PATIENCE - PART ONE
I'm sat here patiently writing this late into the night, because my mind is creatively racing and theres a cough which is keeping me a wake. I'm trying to process thoughts and feelings here, and apologies if it sounds selfish, But I have get it out.
What is the bible and God teaching us about being patient in the waiting. That is such a personal thing to begin with. I should explore what does God teach us in being patient and waiting. And it's why I've broken it into two parts. Part two will come later in the form of poetry written before this blog post. It was going to be but it's how it's ended up being.
Personally throughout this season of health issues God has been teaching me so much. I wonder if it's because I've physically had to slow down, rest and heal. Patience has been something big in this season and no more than right now. I thought that this next phase would be straight forward and quick. But it seems to be dragging on. I've made my decision but now I'm waiting for the appointment with the oncologist.
This week I've got very impatient in my waiting and I've got rather grumpy with God for keeping me waiting. I've found in my impatientness I'm getting anxious and fed up. I prayed, I waited and prayed some more. Still nothing it's become a daily habit this week checking my NHS notifications on my app, eagerly waiting for the post but nothing but junk mail. Please dear readers tell me I'm not the only person.
On Thursday the 19th of March I began using my impatience creatively, it started with writing one small line which ended up being two long poems (revealed in part two). Then after arriving home after a church meeting writing an acrostic on the word Patience followed by an acrostic of bible characters spelling out patience. I researched each character and if they were patient or not. For the letter E I came up with Eve, she a tricky character to phathom late at night so I went for Elijah instead.
The dictionaries definition of patience is; Patience is frequently described as a powerful, productive virtue - often deemed a "conquering virtue" or "power" itself. Key themes emphasize that patience, while sometimes bitter, produces sweet fruit and acts as a "warrior" alongside time. It is key to success, wisdom, and maintaining peace during life's inevitable challenges. The biblical definition of patience is; the ability to endure difficult people and situations without giving into anger or giving up hope. Because God continues to show us patience when we are doing disappointing things, we can show others patience when they disappoint us.
We must learn again to lean into God, He hears each of our requests, our frustrations. Yet He continues to show us grace, love and mercy. We must try to understand its in his timing not our own. Patience I fully understand is not easy for any of us and we all deal with it in our own way. Perhaps there is a good reason why we're often kept waiting. Perhaps it's to strengthen our faith and trust in God. Perhaps he is preparing us for what's ahead. But He is waiting with us for in the season. Patiently waiting and not doing anything in hast.
