IT IS WITH GREAT JOY

I wonder what you thought when this  blog landed in your inbox. Where you expecting a great announcement from the writer. Some big news story of excitement. Sorry nothing to declare on that score.  I was just rattling my brain for a title on the matter of 'Joy' and its all my tired early morning brain could come up with.  



Have you noticed, and I'm sure many of you sung, worship songs containing the word Joy. I got thinking about it this morning. It was triggered by seeing a friend who is called Joy pop up on social media. It also reminded me of the joy of a recent holiday I've just had: on the last evening watching the beautiful sunset over the beach at Harlech (see the photo on the left, taken by Sarah Joy Holden).


Many of our worship songs actually refer in their lyrics to the scriptures. It is hard to know for sure the exact number of worship songs with the word Joy in them. Millions have been written over the decades of time.

The dictionary describes joy as a feeling of great happiness, delight, or deep contentment. An intense, positive emotional state often sparked by well-being, success, or good fortune. A person, object, or event that brings great pleasure or satisfaction. A long-lasting sense of peace and fulfillment rather than a short-lived

The Bible describes joy as The Bible refers to joy as a profound spiritual gift and a deep, enduring gladness rooted in God's presence, rather than a temporary emotion tied to happy circumstances. Unlike earthly happiness that changes with life events, biblical joy remains steadfast during hard times and trial. A key source of joy is the gift of salvation and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.


Here are a few examples of worship music containing the word "joy":
House of the Lord by Phil Wickham (features the lyric "There is joy in the house of the Lord"). The christmas carol Joy to the World.Joy of the Lord by Rend Collective.Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee the classic hymn based on a tune by Ludwig van Beethoven. There are many many more, another one has just popped into my head.


Joy in our worship to our creator God, he reminds us of it everyday. Finnding it for ourselves through scripture and song. Finding joy in our everyday, whatever we believe or disbelieve. There is many a secular or faith based song of Joy. Today you will encounter either and it will stay with you most of the day.

For some athletes 202.2 miles in a year might not seem a big deal. But for me it is a great achievement, especially when 54 years ago being told you would never walk. On Sunday depite foot pain and tiredness I pressed on and reached my goal 100 walks in 12 months. Those who really know me, know that when I put my mind to something there's no stopping me. On my birthday in 2024 I set myself a goal to walk 53 walks in my 53 years of life, complete it by 9th December 2025. By June I had completed 53 walks. I was then challenged to raise the bar and get to 100 by 31st December. At 3pm on 28th December I had finished walk 101. In my head I thought it was walk 98/99. ROBERT BURNS

  This Sunday evening across Scotland and native Scottish lands, There will be a fair few Burns night celebrations. It is the Scottish tradition known as Burns night. A Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, the author of many Scots poems. The suppers are usually held on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January, known as Burns Night also called Robert Burns Day or Rabbie Burns Day. With haggis the main feast food eaten.   I think I only ever tried haggis once, I'm not scotish or have as far as I know  no Scottish anstestry.  Heres what I learnt about  it; Haggis is a traditional Scottish savoury pudding made from sheep’s offal (heart, liver, lungs), minced with oats, onions, suet, and spices, traditionally cooked in a sheep's stomach. MARY DID YOU KNOW?

  Mary, did you know? Mary (mother of Jesus), you have heard the word of God tell you the news and confided in your cousin Elizabeth who also was with child. Mary's child was a tiny cell a small foetus. These women won't have had the technology, skill and knowledge we have today. Mary relied on the confidence of Elizabeth, first to tell her the news that she had been chosen by God to carry his child. Secondly Mary may certainly have relied on Elizabeths experience as she was further on in her pregnancy than Mary; There weren't any self-help manuals around back then. It was far too risky for her and Joseph to reveal the truth. Can you imagine if Social services were around back then, the scandal and protocols that would have been implemented. God made the impossible possible, through the baroness of Elizabeth and the miracle through Marys conception, two humble woman of God.
