9/ 11 25th ANNIVERSARY

THE REASON FOR MY 9/11 POEM

Knowing the 25th anniversary of 9/11 was pending, I felt I wanted to write something down. I want to remember and honour. Not written to be morbid or grotesque. Not written to anger or upset. Not to open opinion or debate. This poem has not been easy to write; it wasn't writtenin one day or night. I've taken my time, being sensitive
with every word and every line. Repeatly editing and refining, even if some writers disagree with that method.

We all know about that dreadful day, a day etched in people's memories. In someway everyone has witnessed it, either first hand, have grown up to learn about it. Still there's
a new generation emerges, with no firsthand memory of the events on that day. It is why we shouldn't forget: to remember the innocent lives lost. The heroes who rushed and sacrificed everything that day."

It might not be perfect to the human eye. It may not even rhyme in some parts; but all that is irrelevant. Some will no doubt criticize its grammar and its purpose. Some will ignore it like my poems Ive shared before. What matters is the sentiment, written from the heart. So, I make no apologies for writing and sharing this poem.

It is something I felt creatively I must do. People write about such things to record historical facts, honour the victims, and examine how the tragedy reshaped modern society. It helps us all process things that were hard to believe; it helps to show
future generations how good triumphed over evil on September 11, 2001, through extraordinary acts of sacrifice, heroism, and unity by ordinary people and first responders. It teaches them about the choices we make to the life we lead.
From generation to generation—may we never forget the
heroes and the innocent who never came home on that fateful day.

Why is the poem so long, because it felt like there was to much important things i couldn't leave out. I have tried to reduce the size of it, but then kept adding to it. It became to long to be feature on any fancy writing app or even a word document.

So without further ado, I give you: 9/11 TWENTY-FIVE YEARS

9/11 TWENTY-FIVE YEARS

One unforgettable September day,
When blue skies turned to grey.
Where Eyes turned to the sky in dismay,
For that day, no one shall forget.

When children left for school that day,
Loved ones said goodbye on the driveway,
Unaware it wouldn't be an ordinary day,
For that day, no one shall forget.

Men rushed in, as others rushed away;
Many sacrificed everything that day.
A world witnessed, an unfolding tragedy.
For that day, no one shall forget.

2,976 folks didn't make it home that day;
Final goodbyes many didn’t get to say,
Everyone holds a personal memory -
For that day, no one shall forget.

What has the world learned since 9/11;
As the dust settled and years rolled past?
For all the heroes and loved ones lost,
For that day, no one shall forget.

New structures risen from the ashes,
Yet still, there are many visible scars.
Memories that still continue to haunt,
For that day, no one shall forget.

Loved ones hearts daily quietly cry,
Memories unlike tears, can't be wiped dry.
Generations will ask the question 'why?'
For that day no-one shall forget.

Human stories of bravery and courage;
When brothers stood side by side.
May each of their memories never fade,
For that day no-one shall forget.

In the space of a day's quiet moment,
A day so raw we can't simply ignore.
Every day since, and everyday to come,
A day in history the world can't forget.
