PATIENCE, AND PRAYER

Image
This is not easy for me to write, yet I feel I need to share my book Journey with you. It is not to gain sympathy or attention for myself. I want this to be a testimony of God's grace and mercy. I raced ahead again, doing things in my own strength. In my rushing I made noticeable errors. I have been reminded again through God's word and through his people to take my time and lean into God. Patience is definitely one thing I have been learning throughout 2025.   There has been endless times over this last 3 months where I have questioned myself as a writer and poet. In the writer’s world we call this imposter syndrome. It is said to be a psychological phenomenon that causes people to persistently doubt their skills, accomplishments, and intellect, despite evidence of their competence. I am of cause talking about the publishing journey I have been on with my first book of poetry. It was all very exciting. I have had someone with experience in publishing Working with me through...

IN HIS TIME NOT MINE

Image
So, I rushed ahead when God told us to wait, I didn't listen to this simply instruction. In my hurrying I made noticeable errors, Therefore I now have to retrace my steps. As I walk along now taking my time,I see the scattered mistakes lying on the ground. Slowly retrieving them, putting them safely in my pocket. I carry them back home, safely laying them out on my work station. Before I set out to correct these damaged words, I remembered to pray and ask God to guide and to me. Here I am sat rearranging, proof-reading and speaking them out loud. In the silence I hear the lord again clearly speak. I intently listen, he says 'let me take the pen and let me write the things you need to hear and share.'  I obey my Father's will and recieve his Holy Spirit. And again I share His words, love through the creative things I write with his guiding hand on my pen. This is His gift to me to receive and to share. This time I am doing it in His strength - especially today when I ...

SHE'S A PUBLISHED AUTHOR

Image
It is my joy and and delight to annouce the much awaited poetry book by Sarah Joy Holden. The book is called 'Prolific Poetess'. This weekend just gone after many months of editing back and forth with the proof reader/editor, I found myself holding the paper version of my own word - Phew Praise God. The journey here wasn't easy and anyone who thinks it is clearly mistaken.   There have been endless sleepless nights, anxiety and stress in the process.  But there has also been much joy all of which has been a tremendous and glorious experience. I never realised what an enormous struggle publishing your book of anything would be. There have be some very lonely times mixed, emotions and moments of praise during this process. I know from fellow writers I'm not alone with these feelings. I wanted to give you the reader the best of my writing heart. My main beating heart belongs to the those I love dearly (two hearts in one). There is now the feeling that I have learned from s...

THE TRAVELLING STRANGER (Short Fiction)

Image
THE TRAVELLING STRANGER By Sarah Joy Holden It was a chilly late morning in February, and the railway station has just witnessed the early morning rush hour. Arriving at the station just after the rush hour commute is a young lady called Bernadette. Bernadette could have got an earlier train, but wanted to avoid the hordes of commuters jostling for their rush hour trains and the overcrowded platforms. Entering the familiarities of the station she headed onto the correct platform, here she waited and watched for the train’s arrival along with the other passengers. It wasn’t long before the train pulled into the platform, its doors opening and several passengers disembarked, before those waiting surged forward trying to board. Bernadette took her time letting a few people go before her. Finally she took her chance and boarded the train. She manages to find herself a window seat; thankful and surprised that she actually did even manage to get a seat on a train. It was a good i...

TOWN PARK PLEASURES

Image
Short Story by Sarah Joy Holden. Coral was a prolific writer in her mid-fifties living in the county town of Duvetdale. She lives opposite the beautiful town park where she often visits, either to the park itself or just as a cut through to the town centre. There is always something going on in town officially or non-official. Nobody misses a trick. It is a small town with a big community heart, everyone looking out for each other. On one particular damp and miserable day in December on a Wednesday afternoon: Coral was walking through the park on her way into town. As she walked through the park, a chorus of birds sang from the trees. They were making a right racket. Yet she couldn’t Identify them, because they were high up in the trees. She paused and sat on a park bench because a poem line had just entered her mind. You see Coral was a bit of a prolific wordsmith; it didn’t take much for her to come up with something. Wherever she went or whatever was happening she would always find...

WAITING IN THE HALLWAY (Devotional)

Image
WAITING IN THE HALLWAY: Devotion by Sarah Joy Holden READING : Revelation 3:8 "I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut". REFLECTION: Waiting in a hallway can be a period of anticipation or transition. It can be a time to reflect, observe, or prepare for what comes next. The hallway itself can symbolize a transitional space, a place to navigate before entering a new room or phase of life.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with waiting in the hallway, especially as you've tried every key in every door. In the hallway you'll always find a resting point,  quiet often chair. It is here, rest, wait, prepare ourselves. The right door will open at the right time or perhaps it can never be opened. You may knock on the door but never force it. For the door to open requires human patience and all things happen for a reason. Until God opens the right doors let's praise him in our hallways. So let be patient ...
