WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

Our mental wellness is vitally important to each of us; Especially in these present uncertain and unprecedented days. It is as important to look after our own mental health wellbeing but also to look out for those that are close to you.

Today is a day that we call 'World Mental Health Day'. It is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. Mental Health illness is real and happens to real people like me and you, pardon that cliche but it is as real as a broken bone in your body. We wouldn't ignore broken bones and in the same way, 'Mental Illness should have the same respect.

Why not take a look at the 'World Mental Health' website https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/world-mental-health-day to find a way that you can support the many charity's that support and advocate for better mental health wellness. Also, here in the UK, you can visit the MIND website. https://www.mind.org.uk/ .

World Mental Health Day happens on 10th October every year. Sadly this year many public face to face, awareness events have had to be cancelled because of Covid, but search around and they'll be many virtual events that you can link into today.

Mental Health matters are not going to go away, There is a crisis of inaction on mental health around the world - and COVID-19 has made things worse. Investing in mental health today is not just the right thing to do; it will have multiple social and personal impact on the world around us. It is estimated 248 million and 265 million people are suffering from anxiety and depression respectively. These alarming statistics, but I will say again ‘We are the difference’ on reducing the impact (often devastating) mental health illness has on lives.

So keep safe, and let's all look out for one another, keep the conversation going.
