HOW LONG MUST IT TAKE
Okay yes i said i was quitting blogging but that is by May and we are still in April. A situation arose shortly after that blog and I felt it's experience needed to be shared. Especially for those who love to write. Please forgive me for entering your inboxes again.
Writing a poem can take any thing from a few seconds to several years, depending on the poet's process, the inspiration, and the level of editorial tweeking desired. There is no "right" amount of time, as some poems arrive almost fully formed, its the 3am remembered and written syndrome.
When Refining a poem this usually takes significantly longer, with poets often spending days, weeks, or months revising, swapping words, and adjusting the rhythm. The pile on method is where many poets keep a "pile" or "drawer" for poems, letting them rest for months before returning to fix them.If a poem is born from a sudden burst of emotion, it may take only minutes, while quieter, more considered pieces may take
I can identify with this, as many of you have witnessed over the years I've been. Speedy speedy I'll get it down, press that little button that shares it to the world, then I'll find errors and constantly be editing and the essence of the word is frustratingly got bored as well as the reader. Lost count of how times this has got me into trouble when submitting it to professional bodies, competitions. It just turns something I love into a messy environment
Ultimately, a poem takes as long as it needs to in order to feel complete. A common phrase among writers is that a poem is "never finished, only abandoned", a quote by Paul Varley who has misquoted it from Leonardo Da Vinci.
Recently I got into a sticky situation, where by my prolific writer hit the buffers. Sharing to much in just one platform the conquences potentially made me considered quitting as a poet altogethe. It could have been much worse but by the grace of God we owned our mistakes laid them at the foot of the cross. Lessons we're learnt, and it has taught me not too rush. Many of you know I take inspiration from 'the tortoise and the hare story, and it's Lesson found me again.
God bless
