PLATINUM BLOG
Over the past few months I have enjoyed the experience writing stories. I have enjoyed building a characters profile. But the process has made me realise that I'm more confident in poetry writing. I got swept away with fantasy of being a published story writer. But the reality has been something so different to the expectations I had placed on myself. It has been a tough learning process. It made me fall out favour with the joy writing can bring.
The stories I've so far written are not going to go to waste. They are simply parked on the shelf for now. They shall remain private and if write further stories they will be written for my own hobby and pleasure. Along this journey I've had some great mentoring on the processes regarding publishing. It was at times brutal but necessary especially receiving rejections.
I recently heard J.K.Rowling story: J.K. Rowling faced many rejections before her Harry Potter series became a success. She has shared some Rowling's first literary agent rejected her work, saying her list was full and the folder wouldn't fit in the envelope. She was told by one publisher to get a day job and change her name. She was told by another publisher that her Harry Potter book was too complex. Rowling's first draft of Harry Potter & The Philosopher's Stone was rejected by 12 publishers in 1995. Bloomsbury eventually agreed to publish the book, but only printed 500 copies. Rowling's story of overcoming rejections and becoming a successful author has inspired many.
Rowlings works and many like these remained me I'm not alone on the writing journey. Such things don't just happen over night; many corporate publishers have their business hats on, and look at thousands of submissions daily with the theory of 'can this make me a tidy profit' attitude. The writer wearing their creative hat and find it difficult if there work is altered by other; there are I guess pro's and cons to to this. We have go into this with an open mind, and I don't think I went about this in the right way. Now however the experience has helped me make my decision.
There are excing times ahead; keep an eye out this week for the release of 'Invisible Poets Anthology 2', which features one of my own poems. Then round April time 'Invisible Poets Anthology 3' will be coming out again featuring one of my own poems. These books will be available through Amazon UK and Wheelsong book. The money will go directly to 'Save The Children Charity.' I've been very blessed to have had 7 of my poems featured in 4 of these anthologies. It has given me the chance to experience the process of acceptance and rejection (I've had four rejections from three independent publishers.
Only God knows what the future holds. In my writing I always seek his guidance. Here are some bible scriptures that help us. Apologies to those reading this who are not writers or authors but i pray that they will speak to you in th hobbies and works you pursue:
"Write them deep within your heart (Proverbs 3:3 NLT). You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you (Isaiah 26:3 CSB). Then the LORD told me: “I will give you my message in the form of a vision. Write it clearly enough to be read at a glance” (Habakkuk 2:2 CEV).The disciples came up to Jesus and asked, “Why do you tell stories?”
Matthew 13:10-13 MSG; Jesus replied, “You’ve been given insight into God’s kingdom. You know how it works. Not everybody has this gift, this insight; it hasn’t been given to them. Whenever someone has a ready heart for this, the insights and understandings flow freely. But if there is no readiness, any trace of receptivity soon disappears. That’s why I tell stories: to create readiness, to nudge the people toward a welcome awakening.”
Thank you for taking time to listen to my ramblings, much appreciated.

The question I'm most often asked is who am I writing for? The other question im asked is so what do you write about? I have struggled finding the answer too both of these questions: when it comes to writing my mind is like a super highway of thoughts, feeling, emotions and circumstances. I say I would write for anyone that reads it; yet this is definitely not a straight answer. I guess that's why I love writing poetry more because there is room for more flexible diversity where as a story follows a more structured concept (setting, character, plot, climax). Its what comes naturally to us if anything at all.
